Two Poems on Adonis

Adonis, the Greek Youth, a mortal in love with a god who died young. Boy kind death like Tutankhamen. Exploring those themes of mortality and its lighter face, immortality.

Death of Adonis by Benjamin West

I knew a girl once named Adonis—

Enough to know her folks

must have been confused.

I found her to be honest.

She found me amused.

Somehow I wrote another Adonis themed poem and so I’ll give you a bonus:

Adonis is a mortal man,

And thus he has to die.

That part of you will die too

But the real You will survive.

The Myth of Venus and Adonis

Venus, the goddess of Love, falls deeply in love with a mortal man, Adonis, (sat on her son Cupid’s arrow. He should take better care of those things.) who was doomed to die.
